The Royal Wiesn
From a Royal Wedding Celebration to a Living Tradition
When Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in 1810, the people of Munich celebrated together with the royal family on a large festival ground outside the city gates.
That celebration gave rise to Oktoberfest – today the world’s best-known folk festival.
Royal Wiesn consciously carries this tradition forward: with respect, genuine hospitality and a clear focus on the cultural roots of the Wiesn, under the patronage of Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, the great-great-great-grandson of the man who initiated the original celebration.

König Ludwig Hell brings a distinctive Bavarian lager to the festival grounds, with close ties to the Bavarian royal family. It is served exclusively in Royal Wiesn’s signature 1-litre diamond-pattern beer stein.
